Proposal: Street of re-allocation of green areas

Short explanation: There is a trend in Zagreb at the moment to allocate parks and green areas into building/constructing sites. The amendments have been added to the General Urbanistic Plan, which authorize opening of the green area of Medvednica (Park of Nature), and therefore change the borders of it… The last oasis of green are disappearing or been "designed" into small parks suitable to the human sight.

Organizational profile: The Green Action is a non-governmental and non-profit organization for environmental protection that is actively involved in the problematic of environmental protection and promotion of sustainable development.

Proposal and short explanation: We would like to re-name the main square "Trg bana Josipa Jelacic" into "Square of Victims of Patriarchate" because we think that women as well as men are victims, at least majority of them. Patriarchate, which strictly divide people after sex, namely binary - male, female (regardless of the fact that some have been born as well as hermaphrodites - pseudo- or real) and subsequently prescribe what does it mean to be a woman and what does it mean to be a man, this patriarchate handicaps people because it does not allow them to develop their own personality exclusive of sex in which they have been born. Discrimination, wars, hierarchy… these are all malignant by-product of patriarchal system of values. It is about time to overcome it.

Proposal: to re-name "Trg S. Radica" into "Square of Promises"

Short explanation: The building of municipality is located on this square. They are promising a lot, but realizing almost nothing.

Organizational profile: Our aim is to raise self-esteem, self-consciousness and socialization of women, to influence and improve quality of life and sanitary standard, to stimulate and implement programs of psycho-social support, to participate in creating programs for women and to include children in educational system of Croatia. Our activities include: workshops, lectures, consultations etc.

Proposal: to re-name "3. Kozari put 2. odvojak" into "Prosperous Settlement"

Short explanation: Before it has been no water, no electricity, asphalt roads, there has been just one gypsy house, and now there are more then 50 houses, gypsy as well as non-gypsy, some of them are legalized, there is water and electricity, and some roads have been asphalted.

Organizational profile:
* Consulting and organizing lectures for preventing of drugs, alcohol and nicotine
* To establish a game-space for Gypsy children in Croatia
* To learn those children, which are not attending school, to read and write, no matter the age
* Prevention of violence in families
* Prevention of marriage in infancy
* To organize free time of youth and children
* To preserve customs and culture of Gypsies (folklore, dance, acting, etc.)
* To include gypsy children in educational system of Croatia

Proposal: Street of globalization trends

Short explanation: Globalization trends: do they destroy the spatio-temporal distances/fractures? Is the fact of the globalization also the fact of localization, are they united in super-modern "glocalization"? Are the contemporary integration processes at the same time the disintegration processes which, after the final fall of the history, cement the naturalness of found social, political and economical differences between the states, as well as between people? At last, how are these processes reflected in relatively small environment as Zagreb? What are its "authentic" residents, do they feel endangered by the invasion of newcomers from province and is that centre by itself - in the broader context - also a province?

Organizational profile: "11th thesis" is a magazine that deals with social and political issues. The overall standpoints presented in the magazine could be characterized as left and radical, but it doesn't have to mean anything - the magazine and people making it are rather taking the way of deconstruction of the "left" and other ideas with radical sign in order to realize if there is (at all) a possibility and need for the "revolutionary" and its articulation - in such a way it does not want just to state or deny, but also to work in the development of social self-consciousness. How successful we are? No one can judge yet.

Proposal: to rename Svacicev trg into Sisterhood Park

Short explanation:
The square is famous as the gathering place of prostitutes. Sisterhood Park/Square expresses values of solidarity between women (the idea of sisterhood) as well as political position contra legalizing prostitution and pro de-criminalizing of prostitutes and intensive struggle against trading with human bodies in all different forms.

Organizational profile: Centre for Women's Studies - Zagreb is the first and only independent educational centre in Croatia offering a place for academic discussion on issues concerning women today; it is also an acknowledged centre for civil education in the South-Eastern Europe. The Centre, founded in February 1995 by feminists and scholars who had attained an expertise in the training and dealing with feminist and women's issues, provides its students with an understanding and critical reflection of issues that are relevant and important to women and to society as a whole.

Proposal: Street of the construction of peace

Short explanation: Construction of peace is a concept of peace policy that raises ever more often in international as well as interior governmental discourse. Thus e.g. UN founded the Committee for the construction of peace whose member since not long ago is also the Republic of Croatia. CMS (Centre for Peace Studies) is one of the initiators for delivering the platform for the construction of peace - a policy document offered to signing to the Government of the Republic of Croatia. Organizational profile: The purpose for establishing and operation of the Centre for Peace Studies is the promotion and support of the values of non-violence, social justice, respect of human rights, tolerance and acceptance of differences and diversities through participative processes of learning that include interchange, articulation and consideration of practical experiences of those individuals that want to work on the transformation of conflicts and construction of socio-legislative relations.

Proposal: "Street of Renamed Streets" or "Square of Renamed Squares"

Explanation: In the 1990es the the cabinet of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman
Took the decision to rename The Square of the Victims of Fascism as The Square of The Great Men of Croatia. After massive protests this decisision was taken back and the name of the square is again The Square of the Victims of Fascism.

Organizational profile: Multimedia Institute is a Zagreb-based organization working on social approaches to digital technologies, media activism, social theory and cultural policy. Locally it is primarily known through activities of its public space - net.culture club MAMA, while internationally through its free software/culture activities.

Proposal: to re-name the main street of Travno - Božidara Magovca - into: STREET OF PROFESSION IN CONFLICT OF INTEREST

Short explanation: Travno is a large prefabricated housing area. The biggest building with about 6.000 inhabitants is called "Mamutica". Behind the building is a meadow, a green area that was designed as a park for the inhabitants.
In 2006 a part of this area became a building site for a catholic church. The initiative Travno - My Neighborhood does not agree with this development, because there would be other places for a church, that do not occupy the green space of the inhabitants. The renaming is dedicated to the officials, who made the unlucky decision possible.

Organizational profile and aims: We were firstly a citizen initiative, but we decided to organize to NGO to become a subject by decision-making through the bodies of local self-government in the questions of our neighbourhood. The aim is to improve the quality of life for all, in particular for children, youth and older people.

Proposal: Rename "Bloody Bridge" into "Alley of love and life"

Short argumentation: It is maybe not surprisingly: walking the town we perceive reminders of what could roughly be put in the category of history / science / reason. This proposal should remind that feelings / art / culture etc. also play a huge role in life and it should motivate people to love themselves and others, everyone and everything. (How is it possible being filled with hate to wish freedom, peace, happiness, dignity… to everybody? It seems that this town lack warmth and empathy...)

profile of organization: Organization for culture and social equality - "Refleks" is non-governmental, non-for-profit youth organization registered in 2006. The mission is to intercede for social values such as freedom, equality, peace-building, solidarity, tolerance, social justice, human dignitiy, equality of nationas, religions, sexes etc.
