Once you cleaned that street yourself
and you turn around and look how clean it is -
sometimes it´s a really good feeling.
(Richard Townes, supervisor)
Times Of Garbage describes a working day of sanitation workers
in Times Square. Street cleaners are very present in day to
day life around Times Square, one of the most famous pieces
of real estate in the world. REINIGUNGSGESELLSCHAFT accompanies
some of them during their daily routine, when they clear up
the waste that is caused by mass consumption. The workers
are surrounded by the promising world of advertisements and
as well by social disparity. The camera observes the workers'
movements through the highly commercialized cityscape and
gives an insight into how the protagonists perceive their
role in the public sphere. The video's theme is how the professional
life of street cleaners creates personal identifications with
the job and the urban environment.
The video is dedicated to the sanitation workers around Times
Square.
